Abstract

The primary aims in modern dentistry are to ensure the health and safety of patients, while meeting their clinical and personal needs. Demands are extremely high on the clinician to provide excellent dental implant services, whether they are an experienced provider or relatively new to implant therapy – patients often expect them to achieve close to 100% success.

A new era of digital implant dentistry is here. Cutting-edge CAD/CAM technologies in oral surgery and prosthodontics enhance the 3D diagnosis and treatment planning process. The decision-making and the virtual surgical and prosthetic treatments can therefore now be duplicated in practice following a minimally invasive philosophy. The novel integrated digital workflow, in particular, enhances the 3D visualisation of the bone and soft tissue architectures, merging the anatomical needs with the patient requirements for a natural-looking restoration and facial rejuvenation.

Professor Pozzi’s lecture will provide a comprehensive review of the latest digital workflow used to carry out all clinical procedures related to implant therapy. He will highlight the benefits achievable through the use of guided planning, guided laboratory procedures and guided surgeries, while maintaining the fundamental principles of osseointegration. The lecture will walk delegates through an amazing treatment journey of the partial edentate and fully edentulous patient. His ten years of scientifically proven experience and clinical follow-up in guided surgery and CAD/CAM restorations will be shared with the audience to support clinical protocols, and he will offer practical tips and tricks with case studies demonstrating each clinical scenario.

Learning Objectives

At the end of Professor Pozzi’s lecture, delegates will have achieved the following:

  • Broadened their knowledge of hard and soft tissue surgical management.
  • Explored the advantages and disadvantages of guided surgical techniques and immediate implant placement and loading to enhance clinical outcomes and better establish when immediate loading is feasible.
  • Developed their understanding on how to incorporate 3D implant planning software into daily practice with a focus on aesthetically demanding cases.

Biography

Professor Pozzi was formally trained in the inter-related areas of implant surgery, prosthodontics and laboratory technology. He personally performs both surgical and prosthetic parts of the implant treatment. His expertise focuses primarily on integrated digital workflow in implant dentistry, computer guided surgery and prosthodontics with CAD/CAM technology. Professor Pozzi has been carrying out clinical research to validate cutting edge digital technologies, novel implant design, and minimally invasive immediate implant rehabilitation concepts. As a researcher, he has been selected to receive the 2013 Judson C. Hickey Scientific Writing Award.

Formerly Research Scientist and Professor of Oral Rehabilitation at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, he currently holds the Interim Chair of Oral Surgery-Implantology at the Marche Polytechnic University, Italy. Faculty Member of the advanced clinical training program in Surgical Implant Dentistry at the UCLA University in Los Angeles and Guest Lecturer in Continuing Education.

He has been teaching both specialisation courses and masters programs worldwide and in his own practice in Rome and has lectured at several international congresses.
