ADI collaborates with FGDP to define the mentoring process in Dental Implantology

The ADI are delighted to announce the collaboration with the Faculty of General Dental Practice UK (FGDP) to help define the mentoring process within Dental Implants.

The Training Standards in Implant Dentistry was initially published in 2005, now 15 years ago and stands as the primary guidance for those dentists who provide dental implants. It also serves as the reference point that the General Dental Council use in their assessment of competency and to ensure patient safety.

The Training Standards in Implant Dentistry requires those placing dental implants to be competent in the surgical and restorative procedures through an appropriate course with a period of mentoring.

The ADI in collaboration with the FGDP have been working hard to establish a new section on mentoring in Dental Implants, with a description of how the mentoring process could be provided.

We hope this will standardise the mentoring process within the field of Dental Implantology, improve teaching standards and increase patient safety.
