Dear Colleagues and Friends,
On behalf of the ADI leadership team, I have great pleasure in inviting you to our Team Congress on the ADI's 25th Anniversary in Manchester 1-3 May 2013.
The Congress, which is entitled "How long do implants last?", will focus on the complications, risk management and prognosis of implant treatment. In an era when patient demand and expectations are constantly rising and after nearly three decades of revolutionary research and development, we felt that this would be a highly relevant question to address: what are the real challenges and problems facing us today that affect the success and longevity of implant treatment?
We have invited some of the world's most eminent implantologists and researchers from Europe, Asia and the USA to lead the Congress. In this respect, I am indebted to our Scientific Chairman Eddie Scher and the ADI staff for working hard to plan the congress so meticulously in every small detail, from the choice of experts to developing highly focused learning objectives for each lecture and constantly negotiating with our speakers to ensure coherency and consistency throughout the congress. Needless to say, I am also grateful to all our speakers for accepting our invitation to participate - we can all imagine how busy they must be. We trust that it will be an outstanding conference fit to celebrate our association's 25th anniversary. Frankly, there will be so much to learn and debate for all of us; from the most experienced clinicians placing thousands of implants to novices hoping to get involved. To cap it all, John Wibberley, Simon Wright and David Speechly have put together one of the best line ups for the whole implant team: the nurses, practice managers, hygienists, therapists and dental technicians.
"How long will my implants last?" is a question posed by our patients on a daily basis. Frankly, the answer would be fairly straightforward; "forever" if everything were perfect given the best patient, the best implant and the best implant team. Sadly, clinical conditions are seldom perfect and therefore the outcome of treatment we provide is affected by a multitude of factors unique to each individual case. In order to satisfy high patient expectations, as well as to deliver long lasting predictable results, today's clinician needs to master a highly individualised risk management and treatment planning process guided by the best current evidence. It is said that as many as 60 different factors may need to be evaluated, as part of risk management strategy, when planning satisfactory treatment. Our world-renowned speakers have been briefed to look at the biological, technical and mechanical problems that commonly affect the outcome of implant treatment and give us evidence- based but patient-centred practical tips and advice on how to prevent complications occurring.
Naturally there will be a tremendous opportunity for us all to network and make new friends during the Congress, with experts and novices in attendance from all corners of the UK. We are particularly looking forward to welcoming our new clinician, technician and DCP members who have recently joined the association.
The congress is extremely well supported by the dental implant industry. We hope you will enjoy the congress exhibition which will be open throughout the congress on Thursday and Friday.
The congress party – ADI Oscars Bash – will be held at the historic Midland Hotel on Thursday 2 May. We have a variety of entertainment and top of the bill is Dominic Halpin & the Honey Bs.
