In 2014, after two years of trying to make sense of a patient’s concerns, Geoff received notice of a fitness to practice complaint from the GDC. The case went through three stages. Each took one year. The culmination was five days in front of committee. He was found to have no case to answer.
This lecture will illustrate the many advantages of short implants that can help solve many complex implant cases. One such case will be used to demonstrate how careful record keeping, assertive and swift responses can keep you out of trouble but not necessarily away from the GDC.

Biography
Geoff Pullen qualified from Kings College Hospital in 1997 and then graduated from the University of Southern California with a DDS in 1981. He joined Harold Preiskel’s practice on his return to the UK and was there when Harold was in the first UK cohort to attend the Branemark Clinic. As Harold was already known for his book on Precision Attachments, he was well placed to comment ‘I’ve just seen something that will change the face of dentistry.’
He soon went on to open his own practice as a squat in Knightsbridge before returning the London’s West End and finally ending up in a practice in his then home around the corner from Tony Blair’s house. He sold the practice to another neighbour, James Hull, when the corporates came calling and has since been ‘owned’ by James Hull, Smiles, Oasis and now Bupa. He has been on the clinical boards of each.
He has lectured widely in the UK, in Europe, the USA, Russia and India on treatment planning and the use of short implants. He is a Past President of both the American Dental Society of London and the American Dental Society of Europe. He currently gives the material of peri-implantitis for the Royal College of Surgeons Diploma course in Implantology.
He has placed and restored implants in his practice since 1989 using Nobel, 3i, Astra and Straumann but in 1997 started using Bicon. He has hardly used any other implant system since. He is a clinical director of Bicon Marketing limited and in that role has demonstrated live surgery and the restorative aspects of the system to hundreds of dentists in his practice.
