At the start of our implant journey we can be more concerned with learning what to do rather than why to do it. Ignoring the science that underpins what we do makes us technicians rather than clinicians and means that we don't understand why we experience occasional failures. The presentation through a mixture of clinical photographs, animations and scientific paper reviews aims to help delegates understand the factors which affect integration and why one timetable doesn't apply to every patient. We will look at bone quality, loading stresses, medical factors and pharmacology which affect hard and soft-tissue healing and resistance to stress. 

Biography

Dr Nigel Jones is our dental surgeon who places and restores dental implants.

Dr Nigel Jones qualified from the London Hospital in 1980. His role in practice is solely placing and restoring dental implants.

He obtained his diploma in implant dentistry in 2008 from the Royal College of Surgeons, and a Fellowship in 2014. He also has an MSc in Implant Dentistry.

As well as placing and restoring around 500 dental implants a year, he has a part-time role as cohort director on the Implant Diploma at the Royal College of Surgeons. He has undertaken additional training and is qualified to provide dental sedation for extremely nervous patients.
