The lateral region of the mandible could be a real challenge for implant supported restorations. Tooth loss and the use of removable partial dentures could result in severe hard and soft tissue deficiencies, that can be really complicated to restore with dental implants.

A variety of surgical techniques have been described for this region particularly. However, decision-making can still be very difficult for clinicians to offer the most predictable method for their patients.

Bone substitutes or autogenous? Timing of implant placement? Vertical augmentation or short implants? Timing of soft tissue surgery?

In our lecture my presentation is aiming to simplify the decision making process. Also, I would like to share my clinical cases.

Tamas Chikany is a specialist in Prosthodontics, Oral Surgery, and Oral Implantology. As a well-known national and international speaker in the academic world on this field, he is also involved in a specialist team set up for treating cleft patients in multidisciplinary hospital setting where his role is soft tissue augmentations and treating patients with severly resorbed arches.

Dr Chikany's Phd research topic was on surgical treatment of peri-implantits. His main interest is hard and soft tissue augmentation around implants and periodontal plastic surgery.
