Study Club success in the Republic of Ireland

The ADI Study Club splashed down in the Republic of Ireland!

Fulfilling a long-term vision to expand the ADI and the educational opportunities available to dental implantologists in Ireland, the inaugural Study Club was presented by Dr Liliana Silva on 17 September. Held in the stunning Clayton Hotel Ballsbridge – a space of tranquillity just a short distance from Dublin’s city centre – the evening session was titled “Managing Compromised Implant Sites – When and How to Regenerate”.

The Study Club was a fantastic success. Turnout was strong, and delegates gained valuable insights from Dr Silva into treatment planning, defect management and evidence-based decision-making, helping them choose the most appropriate regenerative strategy for a variety of clinical situations. Dr Silva is internationally recognised for her award-winning clinical work and her position as President and Founding Member of the Association of Ridge and Tissue Augmentation (ARTA) – the knowledge and skills she detailed in the Study Club will have undoubtedly enhanced the workflows of the attending dental professionals and set an exceptional standard for future Republic of Ireland Study Clubs.

The session was hosted by Dr Peter Doherty, one of the co-founders of 3Dental and the only ZAGA-certified clinician in Ireland. Also in attendance was Dr Andrew Little, the Regional Representative for Northern Ireland and incoming Secretary of the ADI. A keen advocate for Study Clubs, Dr Little recaps the experience:

“I was delighted to welcome more than 25 delegates to the ADI’s inaugural Irish Study Club on 17 September. Expanding our presence into Ireland is important because there is currently no dedicated organisation bringing implant-focused education, networking and professional support to clinicians across the country. In January 2026 I put forward the idea and it was unanimously voted for and pushed by the ADI Board. By delivering accessible, high-quality education, we hope to raise clinical standards and ultimately improve patient safety.

“The evening’s success was made possible by our trade partners, particularly Nobel Biocare, who supported Dr Silva in delivering an educational, engaging and thoroughly enjoyable presentation. It was also a valuable opportunity for like-minded clinicians to connect, exchange ideas and develop supportive professional relationships. We were both humbled and greatly encouraged by the many positive comments and messages we received from the attending Irish clinicians, who described the evening as enjoyable, welcomed the ADI’s arrival, and emphasised how much implant-specific education is needed in Ireland.

“Many attendees have already offered to spread the word, and we hope their enthusiasm will help us quickly grow a strong community of clinicians who can learn, connect and support one another. Our longer-term vision is to host major ADI Masterclasses in Dublin, welcoming 180–250 delegates and world-leading speakers as we establish a thriving implant community throughout Ireland.”

 

 

In 2027, the ADI celebrates its 40^th anniversary year. The inaugural Republic of Ireland Study Club reflects the continuing momentum of the ADI and the passion of its members in navigating new frontiers and growing the community. The goal is for the ADI to hold three or four annual events and expand into Galway and Cork over the next few years. One of the first ADI events in the 40^th anniversary year will be a sophomore Study Club in Ireland, set for 21 January – save the date!
