Looking ahead to 2027 - Meet the Next ADI President, Dr Zubair Sacranie

In 2027, the Association of Dental Implantology (ADI) celebrates its 40th anniversary and welcomes its new President, Dr Zubair Sacranie. As a highly qualified dentist, Dr Sacranie is based at Infinity Dental Solihull, where he has treated patients for over 20 years.

Dr Sacranie completed his Master’s Degree in Dental Implantology in 2009 at the University of Sheffield. He also holds a certificate in Implant Dentistry from the University of Warwick and has recently been admitted as a Fellow of the College of General Dentistry, a prestigious award among UK clinicians. A champion of education, Dr Sacranie has also served as Treasurer for the ADI, supporting the organisation and promoting its growth. He reflects on the career path that brought him here:

“My journey into dental implants came fairly early: I was a final year student at Dundee School of Dentistry and there was an introductory lecture to implants. It felt new and exciting; it was positioned as being on the cutting-edge of dentistry and it sparked my interest. After graduating, I was a Senior House Officer in a dental hospital where I helped restore implants, gaining invaluable experience. By the time I left, there were lots of opportunities to educate myself further – I just needed the time and finances. My interest gradually increased as I picked up what I could, and then I completed my MSc in Sheffield in 2009.”

Dr Sacranie’s passion for dental implants brought him into the orbit of the ADI, recalling his introduction to the organisation:

“I remember seeing a promotional article for the ADI Team Congress around the time I qualified. It was in a dental magazine and it promoted the speakers attending the event, the expanding membership and the implant skills and knowledge that will be on display. So, I joined as a member in the early 2000s and went to the Congress in London. It blew me away. It had an amazing format and the speakers were superb. I realised that the ADI was a truly wonderful community to be a part of and I wanted to get involved from the beginning. As well as the Congress events, I attended the ADI Study Clubs often held in Warwick and Stratford upon Avon, meeting high quality speakers who are still presenting today.

“Over the years, I became an active member of the Board in my position as Treasurer. Managing the finances is what can make or break an organisation, so I pushed to ensure the ADI can deliver the best value to our members each year, as well as developing the network at a grass roots level.

“Being President of the ADI is a huge honour; it is nothing that I expected or anticipated when I first joined the Board, let alone when I first joined as a member! My fellow Board members have worked tirelessly so that support is there for those dedicated to implant dentistry, and that they have entrusted me with the responsibilities of the presidency is truly humbling. I hope to do my best ready for my successor. 

“I am not entering this position with great, grandiose ideas about to leave a mark or long-lasting change. Instead, the fulfilment for me is to continue the brilliant work already underway. For instance, the ADI Fellowship is something I have already helped secure and I want this to be a major part of the ADI’s future. Elsewhere, we are looking to expand to Ireland and grow our network – this will take many years to come to fruition but I look forward to steering it the right way as it will be enormously beneficial for both the organisation and the Irish dental profession.

“The Next Gen programme continues to thrive and I hope to see this encourage greater numbers of dental professionals to join and see the ADI as a benchmark for implant dentistry. When I think back to my early years, it was vital that I knew what educational opportunities there were available and when they happened, so using the Next Gen to enhance these communication channels is really important. All of these endeavours will take up a lot of time and resources, so continuing to build the ADI’s road into the future is my primary goal – anything else would be a huge bonus!

“The ADI’s 40th birthday is a brilliant opportunity to look back at how far we have come as a community and where we are heading next. I cannot wait to see how the ADI grows and, with the shared passion of this community, we can accomplish a great deal.”
