Date: 2 September 2019 – 29 February 2020
Location: The Academy of Clinical Excellence (Wakefield), and University of Portsmouth
Price: £16,000.00

Aims & Objectives

An 18 month, part-time course where you will develop skill and competence through 12 hands-on modules and by placing implants on patients under supervision.

This is a course that meets the training standards in implants endorsed by the General Dental Council and other national and international dental organisations.

After completing the course, you will have the necessary knowledge to sit the Diploma in Implant Dentistry from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (Dip Imp Dent RCSEd).

Event Content

The course is taught over 12 hands-on modules, each module consists of 2-3 days. The practical workshops are supported by supplementary reading which you can carry out in your own time. During this course you will learn to:

Use clinical examination, modern imaging techniques (3-D interactive imaging) and laboratory artefacts.

Evaluate the medical and systemic condition to ensure that the patient can be treated safely.

Develop a treatment plan for that patient, communicate effectively and document the proposed treatment.

Carry out all surgical aspects of the treatment including soft and hard tissue surgery.

Include implant placement and minor augmentation.

Carry out all aspects of restorative treatment including fixed single tooth restorations, multiple restorations and removable prosthesis.

Document treatment that has been carried out in a medico-legally sound manner and enable the surgeon to maintain and monitor treatment that has been carried out.

Benefits

The part-time nature of this course means you do not have to take time out from your career and you can start applying your new skills on real patients.

You will treat approximately 10 patients under supervision.

You will observe patients being treated, carry out treatment under supervision and, when confident, treat patients unsupervised. However you will also have access to the clinical faculty for guidance.

Early on in the course there will be a module on patient recruitment. If you are unable to recruit your own patients, a limited number of patients will be provided, but you will need to assess these patients under supervision and carry out the treatment including the follow-up and monitoring.

For the duration of the course you will also receive a licence to use Simplant dental planning software (from Dentsply Sirona).
