Aims & Objectives
We are delighted to welcome Professor John Gibson to Nottingham for the second year in a row to provide a one day Master Class on Facial Pain Management and Local Anaesthetic. Please note, this master class is not specifically related to implant dentistry meaning practitioners who are not placing implants may also attend this course.
The aim of the day is to refresh delegates’ understanding of the common and not-so-common orofacial pain syndromes, indicate what management might be appropriate in a primary care setting, and consider which patients should be referred into secondary care.
Delegates attending this session will:
1. Understand the multi-factorial nature of orofacial pain, including psychosocial impacts.
2. Be familiar with how to diagnose the common orofacial pain syndromes, such as temporomandibular disorders, oral dysaesthesia, trigeminal neuralgia and persistent idiopathic facial pain, as well as the not-so-common syndromes, such as temporal arteritis and the trigeminal autonomic cephalalgias.
3. Be familiar with current thoughts on management strategies for patients with these conditions as well as who should be referred – and to whom.
4. Have increased confidence in managing patients with orofacial pain syndromes.
John will also provide an ITI Study Club that same evening at the same location on Medicine related to Dentistry. You can find more information about this in the ITI section of this brochure.
