In 2014 I received the letter you never want to open. A letter from Dental Law Partnership outlining accusations about the standard of care that I had provided for one of my patients and a catalogue of claims for compensation. In this presentation I will outline the treatment that I provided , the claims raised against me , the process of litigation and defence together with a summary of what went well and what could have been improved in terms of patient selection, communication and the ultimate defence … the clinical note keeping .

Learning Objectives:

  • Litigation and what is entailed
  • Fitness to practise and what is entailed
  • The difference between both of the above
  • What worked in my defence
  • What could have been better
  • How to manage the risk in the future
