The aim and objectives of this talk will be to cover treatment planning with regards to implants and other alternatives to missing teeth. This lecture will discuss the management of high smile line cases with new surgical techniques and as well as patients who have severe bone loss around teeth. This lecture will also discuss if periodontal regeneration is an alternative for implants before considering implant therapy in the distant future.

Learning objective:

  • To understand ways to manage high smile line cases
  • To have a greater understanding of socket shield technique to enhance aesthetic outcomes
  • To have a greater understanding of periodontal therapy
  • To have a greater understanding of periodontal regeneration to improve the long term prognosis of teeth

Biography

Amit Patel BDS MSc MClinDent FDS RCSEd MRD RCSEng

Specialist in Periodontics & Implant Dentist

Amit is the principal specialist and director at Birmingham Dental Specialists in Birmingham. His special interests are dental implants, regenerative and aesthetic Periodontics.

Amit graduated from the University of Liverpool and completed a 4 year specialist training programme in Periodontics at Guy’s, King’s & St Thomas’ Dental Institute. Amit was an Associate Specialist in Periodontics at the Birmingham Dental School for 9 years and is still an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at the University of Birmingham School of Dentistry . He has taught at undergraduate and postgraduate level, including lecturing to dental practitioners both in the UK and internationally. Amit is also on the committee of the Association of Dental Implantology.
