CBCT and Implant Dentistry: Is There Anything New?

Download Event to Calendar

Presented by: Jimmy Makdissi
Host: Anthony Cooper
Date: 22 May 2019
Time: 1900 Refreshments 1930 Lecture
Location: Novotel Newcastle Airport, Ponteland Road, Kenton, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE3 3HZ

Imagining in implants has evolved dramatically in recent years. This has been dominated by the introduction, then the exponential rise in the use of Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT). CBCT is based on relatively simple technology, which complements conventional radiography and replaces Multi-Slice Medical Computed Tomography. CBCT allows the dental team to access “on-site” efficient and powerful technology for the diagnosis, planning and management of patients undergoing treatment. In this talk, Dr Makdissi will review the clinical applications of CBCT in implants, the factors that optimise radiation dose and the image quality, and the various software packages. He will also be covering the legal aspects of prescribing, performing and reporting CBCT scans, and the current guidelines in the relationship and training requirements for anyone using CBCT.

Session Aims:

  • To understand the principles of CBCT
  • To understand the optimisation of CBCT radiation dose
  • To understand the optimisation of image quality
  • To understand the balance between dose and image quality
  • To be aware of the current applications of CBCT in dentistry and implants
  • To be able to identify the various legal positions of responsibility relating to the use of CBCT
  • To be aware of the current training requirements to refer, perform and read a CBCT scan
