The implementation of digital dentistry in the UK has seen a significant boom. The UK leads Europe in the amount of uptake of new digital technology within the dental sector. Guided implant surgery has seen a particular increase as a result of improved access to specialised equipment and advanced planning softwares. The use of a prosthetically driven surgical guide should be considered the bare minimum in modern implant dentistry. The use of BlueSkyPlan has helped reduce the cost of guide fabrication making it more cost effective for both the patient and clinician. An implant surgical guide can be designed in 15 minutes and 3D printed in a matter of 30 minutes.

This lecture will demonstrate the pros and cons of guided surgery, the fabrication and use of simple surgical guides supported by teeth, soft tissue and bone and will showcase advanced case studies demonstrating multiple guide protocols, stacked guides and immediate loads full mouth guided surgery.

Learning Objectives:

  • To understand the implementation of guided implant surgery in practice
  • To discuss case selection, advantages, disadvantages and pitfalls
  • To learn about the scanning protocols for tooth supported, tissue supported, and bone supported guides
  • Understanding what can go wrong in guided surgery
  • To explore simple guided surgery case studies
  • To explore advanced multiply guide/stacked guide case studies
  • To understand the BlueSkyPlan software basics
