Tissue is the Issue – The Theory 

This advanced Study Club provides an introduction to microsurgical techniques for dentists placing implants who are looking to advance their soft tissue management skills. Designed as a standalone educational session, it can be attended independently and does not require attendance at the practical hands-on workshop the following day.

The evening will explore the principles behind predictable soft tissue grafting and microsurgery, providing delegates with valuable theoretical knowledge to support their clinical decision-making. For those who wish to further develop these concepts, the optional practical workshop offers the opportunity to put the techniques into practice.

Learning objectives

By the end of this Study Club, delegates will be able to:

• Understand the indications for soft tissue grafting and its role in implant dentistry.
• Explore the selection, harvesting and management of donor and recipient sites.
• Gain an introduction to microsurgical techniques and their role in achieving optimal clinical outcomes.
• Understand different suturing techniques and their application in soft tissue procedures.
• Explore the limitations, potential complications and strategies for their management.
• Develop a solid theoretical foundation in soft tissue management, whether attending the Study Club as a standalone event or progressing to the optional practical workshop.

Tissue is the Issue – The Practical Side

Building on the theoretical principles covered during the Study Club, this advanced hands-on workshop is designed for dentists placing implants who want to develop and refine their practical soft tissue management skills.

Delegates will have the opportunity to practise microsurgical and suturing techniques in a hands-on environment using pig jaws, allowing them to develop greater confidence and understanding of the techniques involved.

Aims and Learning objectives

The aim of this course is to advance the learners skills of soft tissue management around dental implants. This will include the understanding of:

• The Indications for soft tissue grafting and the importance of optimal soft tissue around implants.
• Correctly selecting, harvesting and management of both donor and recipient sites
• Microsurgical techniques for optimal results
• Suturing techniques to ensure predictable results
• Potential complications and how to manage them
• Soft tissue graft alternatives

After completing the course the learner will gain an understanding of:

Soft tissue management techniques, demonstrate, refine and help to develop best practice in optimal soft tissue management giving you greater predictability and long term success rates.

• Know the indications, materials donor and recipient sites for soft tissue grafting
• Know the limitations and potential complications for soft tissue grafting procedures
• Know the instruments used for soft tissue surgeries, and how to best employ them
• Know the principles of wound healing and key-factors to limit complications in peri-implant soft tissue surgeries
• Know the potential intra- and post-operative complications and how to handle them
• Know the influence of soft tissue (quality and quantity) on the outcome of implant success and patient satisfaction

aBOUT THE SPEAKER

► Dr Paul shenfine

Paul has over 20 years experience in implant and advanced restorative dentistry. Having personally placed over 1000 implants. His passion is to provide the best quality dental treatment and outcomes for his patients and provide a full range of mentioning and referral implant services for other dentists.

Paul utilises the latest techniques, highest quality materials available and has the best up to date knowledge and skills in dentistry.

Paul attends many courses world wide and teaches other dentists nationally on the latest techniques in implant dentistry. He is one of only 3 UK mentors at the Kois advanced teaching centre in Seattle.

Paul graduated from the Hurzeler and Zuhr Dental Education Institute having completed all eight master classes in periodontology and implant therapy.

Paul has also been Secretary on the Board Committee of the ADI (Association of Dental implantology) since 2017.
