Join your Host Dr Raid Ali and Speaker Dr Guy McLellan for the first Wales Study Club of 2026!

The evening will provide a detailed exploration into rehabilitation of the severely atrophic maxilla which presents unique challenges that often preclude the use of conventional implant protocols. This presentation reviews contemporary full-arch treatment strategies that expand restorative possibilities through the use of extra-maxillary implant anchorage. Zygomatic, pterygoid, and trans-nasal implants will be discussed with focus on their anatomical rationale, surgical workflows, indications, and integration into immediate-load full-arch prosthetic concepts. Clinical case examples and evidence-based principles will highlight how these advanced approaches can restore function, aesthetics, and quality of life for patients with extreme maxillary resorption, while reducing the need for extensive grafting procedures.

Learning objectives

  • Modified Bone Zone Classification to assist in prescribing appropriate treatment options.
  • Understanding ZAGA classifications and their impact on techniques to maximise bone-to-implant contact.
  • Use of Additional Implants: This includes the considerations for pterygoid, pyriform, and trans-nasal implants
