Join Dr Manraj Kalsi your host for this immersive Study Club Session with Speakers Dr Jeniffer Perussolo and Dr Crystal Marruganti on Peri-implant diseases: From Diagnosis to therapy.
The aims and objectives of this session will be as follows:
Aims:
- Provide a comprehensive overview of peri-implant diseases, from basic concepts to non-surgical and surgical management
- Highlight the importance of early detection of peri-implant diseases to prevent implant failure.
- Equip dental professionals with practical strategies to promote and restore peri-implant health .
- Promote evidence-based decision-making in the diagnosis and management of peri-implant conditions.
- Encourage discussion and knowledge sharing among dental practitioners.
Objectives:
- Define peri-implant health, peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis
- Identify risk factors and early signs of peri-implantitis.
- Review diagnostic tools and clinical assessment techniques.
- Explore current treatment protocols, including non-surgical and surgical options.
- Discuss preventive strategies and maintenance plans for long-term implant success.
- Present case studies to demonstrate practical application of early detection and intervention.
Biography
Dr Manraj Kalsi
Dr Kalsi graduated from Leeds Dental institute in 2016 and completed his vocational training in West Sussex. Following this, Manraj worked across South West London and Surrey, gaining experience in NHS and private Dentistry. During this time, he also completed the membership exam for the Royal College of Surgeons, England (MJDF RCS Eng) and the Postgraduate Diploma in Primary Dental Care with Distinction at the University of Kent.
In 2022, Manraj completed his Doctorate of Clinical Dentistry in Periodontology at Bart’s and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry. In the same year he also passed the Specialty
Membership in Periodontics exams from both the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh as well as being awarded the prestigious Diplomate in Implant Dentistry from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Following the completion of his Periodontology specialty training, Manraj is currently undertaking specialty training in Prosthodontics at the renowned UCL Eastman Dental Institute.

Dr JENIFFER PERUSSOLO
Dr Jeniffer Perussolo has completed her DDS at the State University of Ponta Grossa (UEPG), Brazil, in 2013, complemented by a period at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), USA. Subsequently, she pursued advanced education at the State University of Maringá (UEM), Brazil, achieving specialization in Periodontology, a Master's, and a Ph.D. degree.
She was honoured with a 1-year Osteology Foundation Scholarship, during which she conducted research at the Centre for Oral Clinical Research at Queen Mary University in London (QMUL), UK. Following this period, she continued working at same institution as a Clinical Research Fellow. Presently, she holds the esteemed position of Clinical Lecturer in Periodontology at QMUL, UK, actively engaging in teaching and conducting clinical research in various domains, including periodontology, implant dentistry, wound healing, and regenerative therapy. 
Dr. Perussolo has made significant contributions to the field, evidenced by her publications in high-impact journals and authorship of book chapters. Additionally, she remains an active member of several esteemed scientific societies and committees, notably the Osteology Foundation, National Osteology Group UK Leadership Team, and more recently the European Association of Osseointegration leading the Junior Academy.
Dr CRYSTAL MARRUGANTTI
Dr Crystal Marruganti is an award-winning dentist, researcher, and international lecturer, currently based between London and Italy, where she holds teaching positions for the Undergraduate and the Postgraduate degrees at the University of Siena (Italy). She earned her DMD from the University of Florence and completed advanced training and PhD in Periodontology at the University of Siena, Italy in 2023. Dr Marruganti’s clinical activity is focused on Periodontology and based at Harley Street Dental Studio, where she performs non-surgical and surgical treatment of periodontal and peri-implant diseases and conditions.
With over 50 publications in peer-reviewed journals, Dr Marruganti’s research focuses on the interplay between periodontal disease, lifestyle factors, and systemic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and psoriasis. Her research also focused on the factors influencing the long-term outcomes of dental implants. Dr Marruganti received numerous accolades for her contribution to Periodontology, including the H.M. Goldman Prize from the Italian Society of Periodontology, the Robert Frank Prize and the Hatton Award from the International Association for Dental Research, as well as the Sir Wilfred Fish Prize from the British Society of Periodontology. She also serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Osseointegration and the Journal of Periodontal Research, as well as reviews for leading journals in periodontology and implant dentistry.
In 2025, Dr Marruganti was the first ever dentist to be included among the Forbes 30 Under 30 most influential people in Europe for Science & Healthcare due to her pioneering research on oral and systemic health, and for uncovering the first established link between psoriasis and gum disease.
