The programme is designed for primary care dentists intending to provide dental implants. It complies with the GDC Standards of Training for Implant Dentistry.

Aims & Objectives

Aims and objectives
The overall aim of the Diploma in Implant Dentistry is to provide education and training to enable dental practitioners to practice implant dentistry to a high standard and in the best interest of the patient, within the context of the patient"s medical history and psychological well-being. Training will be provided in an environment that is conducive to theoretical learning, the development of surgical and prosthetic skills, as well as clinical experience.
The programme's additional aims are as follows:
A To improve the quality of life for patients who require implant therapy, enabling them to function effectively and without compromise in society.
B To provide education and training for dental practitioners in implant dentistry, enabling them to provide effective and safe treatment for the benefit of the patient within the context of the patient"s medical history and psychological well-being.
C To execute implant related treatment to a high degree of competence. Training will be provided in an environment that is conducive to theoretical learning, the development of surgical and prosthetic skills, as well as clinical experience.
D To broaden the outlook of the primary or secondary care practitioner, enabling them to relate to other disciplines within dentistry and medicine so as to benefit patients and provide care of the highest standard.
E To form the basic core of education for on-going continuing professional development (lifelong learning) in the rapidly developing field of implant dentistry.
F To develop a Professional Development Plan in line with the GDC guidance for lifelong learning and to update this as the delegate education and competence evolves.
