Treating a severely resorbed edentulous space with GBR and soft tissue augmentation remains one of the most challenging and demanding techniques. This is due to the high expectation of the patient and clinician, treatment planning, patient selection, lack of understanding of anatomy and potential complications. Good knowledge of bio-materials, type of defect, surgical technique, post-operative management and managing complications are vital to success. It is also important to understand the role of healthy connective tissue, which plays a big role in the outcome and also the long term success.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the type of defect
  • Understand the biology and use of biomaterials
  • Surgical principles of bone augmentation
  • Understanding bone grafting technique
  • Understanding clinical importance of soft tissue
