Implantology has rapidly evolved during the last decades and nowadays dental implants are considered, in most of the cases, to be the state of the art in rehabilitating partially and completely edentulous patients. However, placing and restoring implants can be very challenging, requiring knowledge and appropriate high level training in order for clinicians to develop competence and be able to treat patients in a successful and predictable way, meeting their functional and aesthetic needs and expectations.
The aim of this hands-on workshop is to allow young dentists to come in contact with the basic, but fundamentally important, clinical steps of contemporary dental implantology. The lecturers will demonstrate in detail the surgical procedures for placement of single implants, and subsequently, the delegates will practise all the steps. Under the supervision of the lecturers and experienced implantologists, each young dentist will have the great opportunity to perform the surgical placement of a single implant in the edentulous ridge.
Soft tissue handling is often overlooked in the early part of implant training; however, this is one of the most important and difficult aspects. The role of the soft tissues in the long-term functional and aesthetic success of implants is becoming more apparent. Suturing is a fundamental skill that is essential in any oral surgery and is a tool that can be mastered early on in one’s career.
During this workshop young dentists will have the opportunity to learn and practise various suturing techniques from experienced clinicians. Demonstration and one-to-one guidance will be provided so that each delegate can understand how various techniques can be used to manipulate the soft tissues around surgical sites.
