 Fiona Ellwood

Fiona Ellwood is a dental nurse with a varied career and key to her work is helping others reach their potential. She has developed a successful training business for the whole team and also supports those providing pre-registration courses. She is the Patron of the Society of British Dental Nurses and the Chair of the National Oral Health Promotion Group, a former examiner for NEBDN and past President of BADN. Her current role is CEO of a national business and QA inspector for the GDC. She still finds time to be hands-on, although not as often. 

She sits on a number of boards and committees including FGDP UK and the CQC. She is the External Examiner for University of Trinity College Dublin and Cork - to that end she was awarded an Honorary Fellowship by FGDP UK  – the first DCP to receive such a prestigious award. She has also recently completed her Master’s Degree in Education, with a specialist pathway of leadership and management.

Fiona is a trained Mentor and her work has taken her on an interesting journey. She developed the mentoring initiative of a dental charity. This work also includes supporting underperforming GDPs.

Fiona enjoys academic writing and writes for several journals and speaks on a number of topics. Her passion has always been oral surgery, but she has an interest in prevention, general health and well-being and these areas inform her research.
