Implantology has rapidly evolved during the last decades and nowadays dental implants are considered, in most of the cases, the state of the art in rehabilitating partially and completely edentulous patients. However, placing and restoring implants can be very challenging, requiring knowledge and appropriate high level training in order for clinicians to develop competence and be able to treat patients in a successful and predictable way, meeting their functional and aesthetic needs and expectations.
The aim of this hands-on workshop is to allow young dentists to come in contact with the basic, but fundamentally important, clinical steps of contemporary dental implantology. Through clinical videos, the lecturers will demonstrate in detail the surgical procedures for placement of single implants, analyse and explain the techniques of taking implant level impressions and describe thoroughly the necessary instruments, components and materials needed. Subsequently, the delegates will practise all the steps on fresh pig jaws. Under the supervision of the lecturer and experienced implantologists, each young dentist will have the great opportunity to perform the surgical placement of a single implant in the edentulous ridge and, upon completion of the surgical procedure, will undertake all the steps for impression taking of this implant, following one of the appropriate techniques outlined during this course.

- To be able to identify the armamentarium and instruments needed for surgical implant placement
- To be able to design and perform basic incisions and flaps for implant placement
- To be familiar with the surgical steps for placing single implants in an edentulous site
- To know how to manipulate and suture the soft tissues following implant placement
- To understand the various techniques for implant level impression taking and recognise the clinical indications for each technique
- To identify the specific components and appropriate materials needed for implant impression taking
- To be able to perform the clinical procedures for taking an accurate implant impression
