DESCRIPTION:As more and more of our patients are treated with implants\, we need to be increasingly familiar with the mechanical problems which may present over the life-span of the entire reconstruction. For those patients who suffer implant or component failure\, the consequences can be catastrophic if the situation is not carefully and predictably managed.\n\nThis presentation will examine strategies for coping conservatively with failure\, including a consideration of the initial surgical and prosthetic plan\, the potential for re-treatment\, implant salvage and component retrieval\, and the various technical solutions that may help you to successfully rescue a failing or compromised reconstruction. \n\nLearning objectives:\n\nTo consider how mechanical failure can occur and how best to plan treatment to avoid mechanical failureTo discuss causes of screw loosening or fractureTo show how implant components including fractured screws may be successfully retrieved and replacedTo outline approaches to implant removal
