SUMMARY:Edinburgh Study Club (Rescheduled from June)
UID:2110
DESCRIPTION: WHY ATTEND This lecture explores the full spectrum of complications encountered in implant dentistry\, structured across the treatment timeline—planning\, preoperative\, intraoperative\, and postoperative phases. Emphasis is placed on how early decision-making and prosthetically driven\, digitally guided planning can significantly reduce the incidence of both biological and mechanical complications.\n\n Biological challenges\, including failures of osseointegration and peri-implant disease\, are examined alongside mechanical and structural complications such as component failure\, occlusal overload\, and restorative misfit. The session will focus not only on identification but also on evidence-based management strategies\, including when to intervene\, when to monitor\, and when to explant.\n\n Through a series of clinical case examples\, delegates will gain insight into real-world complication management—covering peri-implant tissue health\, bone stability\, implant surface decontamination\, grafting versus non-grafting approaches\, and decision-making around implant removal.\n\n The overarching theme reinforces that many complications are preventable. By adopting meticulous planning protocols\, integrating digital workflows\, and maintaining a prosthetically led mindset\, clinicians can improve predictability and long-term outcomes in implant treatment.\n\n Learning objectives Identify and classify biological and mechanical complications in implant dentistry across all stages of treatment\, from planning to postoperative care.\n			 \n\n Evaluate and apply evidence-based management strategies\, including when to monitor\, intervene\, or explant implants in response to complications.\n			 \n\n Understand and implement prosthetically driven\, digitally guided planning principles to minimise complications and improve long-term clinical outcomes.\n\n ABOUT THE SPEAKER ► Dr Avik Jonathan Dandapat Dr Avik Jonathan Dandapat qualified from the University of Birmingham in 2001 and has focused on implant dentistry since 2002. Following completion of his Master’s degree and postgraduate implant training\, he has worked exclusively in implant dentistry for over two decades\, placing in excess of 8\,000 dental implants.\n\n He is the Clinical Academic Lead for the Implant Diploma programme\, which he has delivered since 2016\, and has trained numerous dentists in both surgical and restorative implant workflows. His clinical approach centres on comprehensive treatment planning\, digital integration\, and team-based delivery of complex cases.\n\n Dr Dandapat is a Key Opinion Leader for Sweden & Martina and Megagen implant systems and leads a multi-site implant-focused dental group across England and Scotland.\n\n Outside of dentistry\, he is a father of three daughters and has a strong interest in travel and motor racing.\n\n DELEGATE PRICING ► ADI Member - FREE\n\n ► Non-Member - £75 (Clinicians\, Technicians and Companies)\n\n ► Non-Member - £25 (Dental Therapists\, Nurses\, Practice Managers)\n\n			 \n\n EXHIBITOR INFORMATION Exhibition opportunities are available exclusively to ADI Company members.\n The cost to exhibit is £250 + VAT.\n To secure your stand\, please book via the event page.\n\n												 			 						 \n\n
