DESCRIPTION:In order to improve the outcomes of implant treatments in highly aesthetic areas and to prevent ridge collapse post extraction\, a number of techniques have been proposed and developed over the years.  More recently\, the concept of ‘socket shield’ or ‘root membrane’ treatment has been growing in popularity and shown great results.\n\nSome may feel indefinitely leaving a root fragment adjacent to an implant is bound to cause problems\, but the evidence in the literature shows otherwise.\n\nIn this presentation\, Yusuf will describe the rationale of such a treatment and explore the types of cases where it can have the biggest impact. He will also be touching on the longitudinal studies and what is happening on a histological level. \n\nLearning Objectives:\n\nTo understand the concept of socket shield and why it is done To understand the different types of socket shield treatments (partial extraction therapies) To be aware of the significance of correct case selection for these treatments To appreciate the evidence in the literature around this topic
