SUMMARY:Webinar: Managing Failure in Full Arch Reconstruction
UID:1392
DESCRIPTION:As more and more patients are treated with an ever increasing range of dental implants\, implant components\, and treatment philosophies\, every dentist will encounter implant failure in their practice. The use of a limited number of angled or short implants\, and in extremely atrophic maxillae\, the use of zygomatic implants is becoming widespread. Though such treatment has been shown to be predictable and generally trouble-free\, failure can not only lead to loss of function\, but there is also the potential to encounter a range of complications ranging from infection to mechanical issues which can have far-reaching consequences. Managing failure can be complex\, therefore careful forethought is required to avoid complication and leave scope to salvage a compromised reconstruction.\n\nFailure and complication will cause disruption and upset for the dentist and for the patient - who must be carefully counselled and consented. Treatment should be undertaken by well trained and skilled operators with the support of an experienced team\n\nWith more than 25 years' experience of working with implants and a spectrum of referring dentists\, Andrew will reflect upon strategies for the predictable maintenance of reconstruction and tissue health\, and the avoidance of short and long-term failure in full arch reconstruction.\n\nThis lecture will present practical approaches for the avoidance of failure and suggest various management strategies.\n\n \n\nLearning objectives:\n\nOutline how our patients should be informed and consented for full arch treatmentsDescribe some of the factors predisposing  for implant failure and prosthesis failureDiscuss component failure and retrievalPresent strategies for coping with failure in full arch reconstructionExplain our  approach to maintenance for patients who have received full arch implant treatments
