SUMMARY:Webinar: Short vs Long. Who Is Right, Who Is Wrong?
UID:1355
DESCRIPTION:The British Society of Restorative Dentistry make a statement in their brochure- ‘It is not necessary to use an implant for every missing tooth if long and stable implants can be placed.” Whereas the European Consensus Conference recently stated that short implants work and that for any patient where a graft is considered they should be offered a short implant as an alternative\, where relevant.\n\nSo do short implants work and is stability (initial stability) important to long term success? My answer is yes and no. In this lecture I will look at all types of dental implants and where we use them. I will discuss design\, surfaces\, grafting\, simplifying surgery and illustrate all my points with clinical cases where the results are over 5 years. Some will be 20 years old.\n\nLearning Objectives:\n\nTo demonstrate that short implants work at least as well as long implantsTo discuss the limited relevance of initial stabilityTo understand the difference that implant design and surgical instrumentation makes to bone healingTo understand where and when short implants can and should be used
