President's Welcome

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

It was with great disappointment that ADI Committee had to rearrange the ADI Team Congress 2021, scheduled for 6-8 May 2021, but in light of the ongoing unpredictability of virus spread and vaccination rollout we felt the safest option was to move the event to May 2022. However, we will be holding our very popular and free-to-membership Members’ National Forum at the end of this year. This is a smaller event than the Congress, and we hope social distancing restrictions will be relaxed by then.

It therefore gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the ADI Team Congress 2022: ‘The Great Debate, Current Dilemmas in Dental Implantology’, to be held on 26-28 May 2022 at Manchester Central.

2020 and 2021 have brought the biggest challenge to society as a whole and to our wonderful profession in particular. In recognition of the financial hardship faced by clinicians and their teams we are offering a massive early bird discount to our membership in order to better facilitate members being able to attend this wonderful, high calibre educational and social experience at a very affordable price.

A large attendance at this event will help our industry partners, it will inspire our teams and fulfil a much absent social engagement that allows us to network and support one another at this time.

Manchester is a city of notable firsts, including the world’s first intercity passenger railway station. It has excelled in scientific achievement, as it was here that the atom was first split, the first stored-program computer was built and graphene was successfully isolated and categorised.

It is in that spirit of firsts that the Congress programmes will, for the first time, explore current dilemmas in implant dentistry through a unique mix of presentations, moderated discussions and debates, and will critically appraise emerging treatment concepts and techniques.

New for 2022, the Congress will open with hands-on workshops delivered by companies at the forefront of implant dentistry. We know this is something you’ve been asking for and we have listened, and we are excited to introduce this to our Congress line-up.

The exhibition, as always, forms the heart of the event, where delegates meet in lunch breaks to network, enjoy some refreshments and visit the exhibitors who will represent all aspects of implant dentistry, with something for everyone to discover.

As well as the educational experience, the Congress is renowned for having social events that provide a great opportunity to relax and to renew friendships. Come and join us for the Congress Drinks in the Exhibition Hall on Friday. On Saturday the Great Gatsby themed Congress Dinner will provide time to relax and party like it’s 1922 at the beautiful Manchester Kimpton Clocktower Hotel.

I’d like to thank my fellow members of the ADI Congress Committee who have volunteered their time and expertise over the past few years to make this such a special event - Nikos Donos, Zaki Kanaan, Fazeela Khan-Osborne, Rob Oretti and Amit Patel - as well as Ashley Byrne and Julia Wilson for putting together the Technicians’ Programme and DCP Programmes respectively. I’d also like to thank the ADI Office team for their tireless work behind the scenes: Tim Hogan, Abigail Haviland and Chloe Webb.

I look forward to welcoming you to an exciting event full of firsts. Whether this will be your first Congress or your fifth, we can promise you fantastic educational and networking opportunities, unique and memorable experiences, and maybe a few surprises sprinkled in for good measure.

We are very much looking forward to a world class event when we can all finally come together to learn and have some fun.

Eimear O’Connell
ADI President 2019-2021
