Aims

  • To discuss how we may or may not be able to meet with our patient expectations.
  • To illustrate a number of common complications that can occur and how these could be avoided or managed.
Objectives

At the end of the lecture the participants should be able to:

  • Reflect on their own clinical practice and see how their communication, decision-making and consent process can be improved to reduce adverse outcomes.
  • Consider how to manage some common implant problems, such as peri-implantitis.
  • Identify patients who they may not be able to satisfy

Biography

Consultant and Clinical Lead In Restorative Dentistry Charles Clifford Dental Hospital Sheffield

GDC Registered Specialist in Oral Surgery and Restorative Dentistry (Prosthodontics, Endodontics & Periodontics)

Raj is currently a Consultant and Clinical Lead In Restorative Dentistry in Sheffield.

He qualified in December 1988 at Kings College Hospital (University of London) and has since progressed his career mainly in the NHS. During this time he has had a number of junior appointments in Conservative Dentistry (Dundee), Paedatric Dentistry (Eastman), Community Dentistry (London) & Oral Surgery (Grimsby).

Following this he undertook a part time Masters in Conservative Dentistry at the Eastman Dental Hospital, completed in 1996, before he was appointed as Lecturer in Implantology at Sheffield University, where he started teaching the One to One implant course in 1997 and subsequent masters course.

During this time he undertook specialist training in Restorative Dentistry and was appointed as a Consultant in 2004. He has since retired his university post and has been Clinical lead In Restorative Dentistry. He is also in Private Practice and Principal of Redmires Dental Care in Sheffield.

In his clinical roles he is Restorative lead for head and neck oncology and has multidisciplinary roles in the Hypodontia and Implant service, as well as providing support to colleagues in Special Care Dentistry, Orthodontics and Paediatric Dentistry.
