Implant therapy is a very popular modality for our patients but there are long term issues with dental implants and peri-implantitis. This is a disease that is on the increase and we are becoming more aware of the histology and the pathology of the disease. 1 in 4 implant patients show signs of peri-implantitis. This presentation will cover the differences between periodontal disease and peri-implantitis and how to manage the disease and maintenance in general practice.

Learning objectives:

  • To understand the differences between periodontal disease and peri-implant disease
  • How to monitor and assess the health of peri-implant tissue and disease around dental implants
  • To understand how to manage peri-implant disease within general practice
